55-13: A Resolution to Reassign Single Stall Gender Specific Bathrooms as Just Bathrooms, Removing Gender Labels

PURPOSE: To make MU’s campus bathrooms more accessible to trans and gender nonconforming students

WHEREAS: there are very few gender neutral bathrooms on MU’s campus; AND

WHEREAS: Students need to be able to use bathrooms regularly; AND

WHEREAS: The current location of gender neutral bathrooms prohibits students from being able to use the bathroom regularly; AND

WHEREAS: Gendered single occupant bathrooms with locks are all the same in the structure of them; AND

WHEREAS: Removing gender labels from the bathrooms would allow trans and gender nonconforming students to have increased access to bathrooms; AND

WHEREAS: Removing gender labels from single occupant bathrooms would allow quicker use for all bathrooms, removing or reducing lines that form for bathroom usage; AND

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MISSOURI STUDENTS ASSOCIATION SENATE that Campus facilities, or the administrating body that is in charge of managing bathrooms on campus, remove gender labels from single occupant bathrooms and replace them with the label of “Bathroom”.

THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the person image that is associated with either female or male be removed from these bathrooms as well. If the bathroom is wheelchair accessible, it denotes it on the sign.
THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that single occupant bathrooms be given the same  accessibility to people that are trans and gender nonconforming.

Respectfully Submitted,

Sterling Waldman,

Senator
