Bill 54-40

An Act to Establish the Wording on the Proposed Libraries Services Fee Referendum

PURPOSE:  To establish the referendum wording on the proposed Library Services Fee funded by students of the University of Missouri.

WHEREAS, MSA Senate has already passed legislation establishing the referendum date on the fall 2015 ballot; AND

WHEREAS, It is important to establish wording for the ballot early in order to negotiate any changes that may need to occur prior to the student vote in Fall 2015;

THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED BY THE MISSOURI STUDENTS ASSOCIATION SENATE that the proposed Library Services Fee referendum wording should reflect as follows:

“Do you approve of an activities fee for the Libraries of the University of Missouri?  This fee will begin at $5.00 per credit hour, and will increase to $15.00 per credit hour over the next six years starting Fall of 2016.

(INSERT BOX OF PRICES)

The Library is the center for academics and learning, however has been drastically underfunded over the past ten years. If approved this fee will provide students with 24 hour access to library facilities, major renovations of study spaces, and expand upon collections and services. The libraries support the instruction, research, service, and economic development missions of the University of Missouri.

() Yes
() No”
