A RESOLUTION TO DECLARE THE MISSOURI STUDENTS ASSOCIATION’S OPPOSITION TO THE PASSAGE OF HB 104 AND SB 248 IN THE MISSOURI GENERAL ASSEMBLY


PURPOSE: To state that the Missouri Students Association is adamantly opposed to the passage of HB 104 and SB 248 in the Missouri General Assembly.

WHEREAS, The University of Missouri is an institution of higher education with a diverse population of students; AND

WHEREAS, Student associations at the University of Missouri play a vital role in creating an atmosphere of inclusion and an environment of equal opportunity among students; AND

WHEREAS, The University of Missouri requires all recognized student associations to comply with the following: “The University of Missouri does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, age, disability or status as a qualified protected veteran;” AND

WHEREAS, HB 104 and SB 248 conflicts with the University of Missouri’s promise of fairness and inclusion, and instead guarantees a student association the right to discriminate against students on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity, and religious observance requirements and beliefs; AND

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MISSOURI STUDENTS ASSOCIATION SENATE that The Missouri Students Association adamantly opposes the passage of HB 104 and SB 248 in the Missouri General Assembly
