AN ACT TO REMOVE BARRIERS FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF STUDENT ACTIVITIES DIRECTOR TO SELECT DEPARTMENT OF STUDENT ACTIVITIES COMMITTEE CHAIRS
PURPOSE: To change the Chapter I Section 1.6(A) of the Missouri Students’ Association Bylaws to reflect current practices of the Department of Student Activities Director in selecting committee chairs and remove the stipulation that a student must be involved with the Department of Student Activities for one semester before becoming eligible for chairmanship.
WHEREAS, Current and past practices have not followed this bylaw; AND
WHEREAS, No other committee chair positions have such stipulations; AND
WHEREAS, This bylaws is dated and needs to be updated; AND
WHEREAS, The Department of Student Activities Director ought to have full discretion when selecting his or her committee chairs, regardless of whether or not they are freshman or have been involved with DSA prior.
THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED BY THE MISSOURI STUDENTS’ ASSOCIATION HERE ASSEMBLED THAT immediately upon passaged of this legislation that Chapter I Section 1.6(A) be worded as follows:
1.60 DEPARTMENT OF STUDENT ACTIVITIES – It shall be the duty of the Department of Student Activities to provide and administer programs for the social, recreational, cultural, and educational life of the students of the University.
(A) COMMITTEES – The following committees shall be a part of the Department of Student Activities. Committee Chairs within the Department of Student Activities must have been a member of the Department of Student Activities for at least one complete semester before becoming eligible to be hired. The Department of Student Activities Director shall select committee chairs for the following committees immediately upon vacancy.
