53-11: An Act to Amend Chapter II of the MSA Bylaws

PURPOSE: to adapt chapter two of the bylaws to clarify the length of terms for At-Large Senators.
WHEREAS, chapter two does not specify how long senators hold their seats; AND
WHEREAS, the term of two consecutive semesters has been understood in Senate as the term limit for At-Large senators; AND
WHEREAS, the following changes will clarify the length of terms for senators; AND
WHEREAS: our Protocol in Senate will be further reflected within the bylaws.

THEREFORE BE IT ENACTED BY THE MISSOURI STUDENTS ASSOCIATION that chapter two of the bylaws be amended to read as follows:

Chapter II
(C) AT­-LARGE SENATORS – Twenty seats shall be reserved as at-large seats meaning that a student from any degree program may fill the seat.
(1) PROCEDURE – Each candidate must submit a completed application, provided by the Speaker, to the Speaker and the Clerk of the Senate by noon. on the day prior to the election.
(2) ELECTION – Each candidate will then be permitted to speak briefly about himself/herself to the Senate. Based upon the plurality of votes will determine the newly elected Senators.
(3) TERM- When elected, each at-large senator shall hold their seat until August 15th of the following academic year in which they were elected unless removed by the requirements set by these bylaws, the constitution, or the Senate Speaker.
