52-27: An Act To Grant The Missouri Students Association A Contingency And Reserve Request

Bill 52-27


PURPOSE: To provide the required sum of money for the Missouri Students Association to send two Craft Studio coordinators to a craft conference.

WHEREAS, the Craft Studio operates in a “mid-Missouri bubble” where museums are at least two hours away and the local art scene is limited; AND

WHEREAS, it is difficult for the Craft Studio to connect with other people who run similar studios; AND

WHEREAS, attending a national conference would broaden the outlook of attendees; AND

WHEREAS, the Craft Studio has never had a budget for travel and conferences; AND

WHEREAS, the current Craft Studio coordinators have never attended a conference while working at the University of Missouri; AND

WHEREAS, it is important for the Craft Studio leadership to stay up-to-date on new techniques and current trends; AND

WHEREAS, the Craftcation conference has educational sessions about crafting and improving small businesses; AND

WHEREAS, the conference focuses on improving marketing and social media efforts for small businesses; AND

WHEREAS, making connections with other people in the field will benefit the Craft Studio in many ways; AND

WHEREAS, the Contingency and Reserve Account currently sits at approximately $27,175.

THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED BY THE MISSOURI STUDENTS ASSOCIATION SENATE that $2,500.00 be transferred from the Contingency and Reserve Account to the Missouri Students Association account to send two Craft Studio coordinators to the Craftcation conference in March 2013.
