52-20: A Resolution Supporting A Physical Memorial To Fallen Soldiers Beneath The Memorial Union Archway

PURPOSE: To encourage the Missouri Students Association to support the installation of a commemorative monument to those students who have lost their lives in service to the United States of America.

WHEREAS, Memorial Union was built with the intention of honoring students who had died in World War I; AND

WHEREAS, it is university tradition to speak in hushed tones and remove caps underneath the archway; AND

WHEREAS, many students fail to recognize this tradition while under the archway; AND

WHEREAS, an additional memorial beneath the archway would serve to remind students of proper, respectful decorum as well as further honor fallen students; AND

WHEREAS, such a memorial would promote and maintain a cherished university tradition; AND

WHEREAS, the Missouri Student Veterans Association has already stated support for this initiative and; AND

WHEREAS, the support of the Missouri Students Association would catalyze action among the student body to remedy this issue; AND

WHEREAS, a student movement would also encourage faculty and staff of the university to participate as well.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MISSOURI STUDENTS ASSOCIATION SENATE that the Missouri Students Association supports the installation of a commemorative monument to those students who have lost their lives in service to the United States of America.
