A Resolution to Commend Professor Martha Townsend for her Service to MU Students

PURPOSE: To commend Professor Townsend for her service and emphasize the importance of personal classroom education.

WHEREAS, Professor Martha Townsend is a valued member of the University of Missouri English Department who teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in rhetoric and composition, and

WHEREAS, Professor Townsend brings a wealth of expertise she has gained through her many years of experience, involvement as a fellow of the Bryn Mawr Institute for Women in Higher Education Administration, her authoring of numerous book chapters and journal articles on writing-across-the-curriculum, and her travels to universities in Romania, Korea, Thailand, South Africa, China, and Costa Rica, and

WHEREAS, she is known throughout the student population for her renewed techniques and remarkable instruction, and

WHEREAS, her research and reputation have earned her awards such as the MU Alumni Association Faculty/Alumni and MU Gold Chalk Award.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MISSOURI STUDENTS ASSOCIATION SENATE that Professor Martha Townsend be commended for her service to MU students.

AND THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be provided to Professor Townsend, with compliments from the Senate.

AND THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be provided to the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Affairs to underline the importance of personal classroom instruction to students at the University of Missouri-Columbia.
