49-61: A Resolution to Give MSA an Inflationary Increase

Missouri Students Association

University of Missouri – Columbia

Bill #49-61

A Resolution to Give MSA an Inflationary Increase

Whereas, the Missouri Student Association is a student government for the University of Missouri and,

Whereas, the current student fee for MSA is $21.64 per student per semester, and

Whereas, this current fee reflects a 5% decrease from the previous year, and

Whereas, this government serves a crucial role in the lives of students while at the University of Missouri by providing goods and services such as STRIPES, MSA/GPc Box Office, Craft Studio, Design Center, Fall Welcome activities, etc, to enhance student life at the university, and

Whereas, MSA has shown itself responsible in allocating these student fees to its auxiliaries in past years, and

Whereas, MSA passed legislation in Bill 48-110 that created a matching payment plan with funds from its carryover to assist with both new MUTV and KCOU studios as stated in Bill 48-116, and

Whereas, MSA also has full time employees that receive pay increases every year to cover rising costs of benefits and the rise in inflation, and

Whereas, the minimum wage in Missouri has increased from $7.05per hour to $7.25 per hour, and

Whereas, MSA was notified to create timelines, payment plans, and cost estimates regarding purchases related to the new student center as stated in Bill 48-44, and

Whereas, MSA has worked with its auxiliaries to form a timeline, cost estimates, and payment plans through multiple revenue streams for future equipment purchases related to the New Student Center as stated in Bill 48-44.

THEREFORE, Be it resolved that MSA receive a fee increase equal to that of inflation.
