Bill # 49-56

A Resolution to Recommend the College Readership Program Fee Remain Unchanged for Fiscal Year 2010

PURPOSE: To recommend and justify that the College Readership Program not receive a student fee increase.

Whereas, the purpose of the College Readership Program is to provide news papers, including The St. Louis Post dispatch, The USA Today, The New York Times, and The Missourian, free of charge to Mizzou students , and

Whereas, the College Readership Program had a carryover of $40,534.76 from fiscal year 2009 and has budgeted for a carryover of $10,000 for fiscal year 2010, and

Whereas, a pilot program to provide selected magazines to Mizzou students has been proposed, and

Whereas, this pilot program would use a portion of carryover funds for its operation, and

Whereas, pursuant to the recent agreement between President Gary Forsee and Governor Jay Nixon, student fees may not be increased, and

Whereas, the College Readership Program has not demonstrated a need for increased student fee funding.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MISSOURI Studend Fee Review  Committee that the College Readership Program student fee remain unchanged for fiscal year 2010

Respectfully Submitted,
