A Resolution to Make Habitat for Humanity on April 9, 2010, the Official Community Service Project of MSA Senate
WHEREAS, as charged by MSA Senate Bill 48-28, the “Senate Campus and Community Relations Chair, in coordination with the Cabinet and other interested parties, [will] plan at least one service/outreach event per semester to promote a sense of community, professionalism, and efficacy among Senators enacting change on campus,” and
WHEREAS, the Campus and Community Relations Committee has taken the responsibility of planning and organizing the project, and
WHEREAS, “Habitat for Humanity seeks to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. To accomplish these goals, they invite people of all backgrounds, races and religions to build houses together in partnership with families in need. Today, Habitat for Humanity has built over 350,000 houses around the world, providing more than 1.75 million people in 3,000 communities with safe, decent, affordable shelter.”
THEREFORE, be it resolved that the Missouri Students Association Senate attend and work with Habitat for Humanity on April 9, 2010 from 10AM-4PM at the address of 3412 Mary Jane, Columbia, MO 65201. Carpooling will be provided for Senators to reach the site.
THEREFORE, be it further resolved that the Senate supports participation in this service project as one of the two community service requirements per year, and
THEREFORE, be it further resolved that the Campus and Community Relations Committee will be charged with monitoring the progress of the plan and reporting the progress back to the Senate.
