48-26: A Resolution to Create an Exception to the System-wide Hiring Freeze for Student Employees

WHEREAS, On November 17, 2008, University of Missouri System President Gary Forsee enacted a system-wide hiring freeze “on administrative, staff and faculty positions effective immediately”, and

WHEREAS, On November 18, UM System Vice President for Human Resources Betsy Rodriguez stated in an e-mail: “The hiring freeze affects all positions, including student employees”, and

WHEREAS, Vice President Rodriguez further stated that each campus Chancellor has the authority to make exceptions as deemed necessary, and

WHEREAS, Many University of Missouri students depend on part-time employment opportunities on campus to meet expenses associated with their education.

THEREFORE, Be it resolved by the Missouri Students Association Senate that Chancellor Deaton grant an exception to the system-wide hiring freeze for all student employee positions on campus.
