47-12: A Recommendation to Discontinue the $35 New Student Center Fee After Its Debt Has Been Retired

Purpose: A Support for continue construction of the New Student Center

Whereas, New Student Center will offer expanded services and amenities in a state of art facility for the MU student community.

Whereas, New Student Center-Student Affairs committee is asking for a $35 per semester fee to fund roughly half of the construction of the new student center.

Whereas, MSA Student referendum approved of the $35 per semester fee in 2005 and the fee increase will support the bond repayment of the new student center.

Whereas, Project 1 will be completed late Fall 2008,

Whereas, Project 2 will be completed Spring/Summer 2011,

Therefore, the Student Fee Review Committee recommends that students be provided updates on the building throughout the process.

Therefore, the Student Fee Review Committee recommends that any additional, unexpected cost for the center must be approved by the Student Fee Review Committee.

Therefore, the Student Fee Review Committee recommends that after the bond for the New Student Center has been paid off, the collection of the $35 per semester from the student body must be discontinued.

Therefore, the Student Fee Review Committee recommends the projected student fee increase of $35 be added to the current student fee of $24.03, bringing the total student fee to $59.65 for the New Student Center.

Respectfully Submitted,

The Student Fee Review Committee
