47-10: A Resolution to Create a Dedicated University Tuition and Fee Website

A Resolution to Create a Dedicated University Tuition and Fee Website

PURPOSE: To set guidelines for a new dedicated tuition and fee website in collaboration with the MU Budget Office.

WHEREAS, The University of Missouri-Columbia does not currently make a tuition and fee breakdown available to students, and

WHEREAS, In 2005 the University of Texas at Austin launched a dedicated Tuition Dollars & Sense website at http://www.utexas.edu/tuition/ in response to a student initiative, and

WHEREAS, The website details a history of tuition, how tuition is set, how tuition is used, and a comparison of tuition costs across the nation, and

WHEREAS, The University of Missouri-Columbia’s estimated $7-9 million deficit for Financial Year 2009 requires that students have as much relevant information as possible to understand how their tuition is set, how it is used, and how they are affected by the University’s financial situation.

THEREFORE, Be it resolved by the Missouri Students Association Senate that the next available edition of the MSA Monthly mass e-mail will include a solicitation for tuition and fee questions and concerns, and

THEREFORE, Be it further resolved that the MSA Department of Student Services synthesize this feedback with the University of Texas at Austin model and MSA Senate Tuition Q&A draft to create dedicated website for tuition and fee information in collaboration with the MU Budget Office.

Respectfully submitted,
