46-49: A Resolution Strongly Encouraging All Campus Entities to Find Other Forms of Advertising

Whereas, Patricia, the new assessment GA for Student Life, has been surveying crowds of recent events and will continue to do so, offering more information and suggestions; and,

Whereas, Patricia’s results are not IRB certified, however her initial findings for 2 sold out shows found that very few students and public attendees discovered the events from the Maneater; and,

Whereas, Facebook has revolutionized our campus, information networks, and our generation in general; and,

Whereas, the price of one Facebook ad to display 10,000 times is $5; and,

Whereas, DSA estimates/predicts $200 in Maneater ads for one event; and,

Whereas, the StuffToDo billboard dramatically increased the number of hits to the StuffToDo website; and,

Whereas, the MSA sandwich boards are constantly utilized and noticed; and,

Whereas, MSA just purchased a large scale printer for banners and posters; and,

Whereas, DSA chairs independently have been motivated for the past month to find other sources, creating a new committee for marketing and has already moved away from Maneater ads; and,

Whereas, Mizzou After Dark had a group of students work on marketing ideas for their capstone project and the number one recommendation was to remove Maneater ads; and,

Whereas, other excellent sources for advertising include but are not limited to:

• Clear Channel
• MUTV (free)
• KCOU (free)
• Local radio stations
• Missourian
• Tribune
• MSA sandwich boards
• Bookstore screens
• Residential hall flyers/mailers

Whereas, the Maneater does not accurately cover campus news with factual information and accurate quotes and further has not worked to fix these problems for the duration of the school year; and,

Therefore, be it resolved by this body that MSA seek other forms of advertisement and cease advertising in the Maneater until students more readily read the publication for student news.

Therefore, be it resolved by this body that all campus entities and Columbia businesses seek other forms of advertisement and cease advertising in the Maneater until students more readily read the publication for student news.

Therefore, be it resolved by this body that the Maneater work to more completely and accurately cover campus news and events and better represent our campus.
