46-33: An Act Updating Officer Pays to Comply with Constitutionally Mandated Minimum Wage

WHEREAS, On January 1, 2007 the new Missouri minimum wage law went into effect raising minimum wage to 6.50; and,

WHEREAS, our lowest wage before January 1, 2007 was $5.88; and,

WHEREAS, our MSA officer pays must comply with this law; and,

WHEREAS, the other MSA officer salaries should increase accordingly with their duties; and,

WHEREAS, Department of Student Life staff worked to create a salary matrix for all department salaries so as to ensure officers were properly placed in a wage bracket; and,

WHEREAS, the high number of hours often mandated by leadership positions and the dedication which student leaders place into their positions often prevent them from being able to have regular outside employment;

THEREFORE, Be it enacted by the Missouri Students Association Senate that Chapter 4 of the bylaws be thus amended:

4.50 COMPENSATION OF OFFICERS (A) COMPENSATION ALLOWANCES—The officers of MSA shall be compensated as follows: President: $2520 per fall and winter semester and $1575 per summer ($8.75/hr x 18 hrs/week) Vice President: $2376 per fall and winter semester and $1485 per summer ($8.25/hr x 18 hrs/week) Director of Student Activities: $1984 per fall and winter semester and $1240 persummer ($7.75/hr x 16 hrs/week) Director of Student Services: $1984 per fall and winter semester and $1240 per summer ($7.75/hr x 16 hrs/week)Director of Student Communications: $1984 per fall and winter semester and $1240 per summer ($7.75/hr x 16 hrs/week) Speaker of the Senate:$2112 per fall and winter semester and $1320 per summer ($8.25/hr x 16 hrs/week) The Two Clerks of the Senate: $700 per fall and winter semester ($6.75/hr x 6 hrs/week) The President’s Chief of Staff: $700 per fall and winter semester ($6.75/hr x 6 hrs/week) The three BEC Executive Board members: $650 each per fall and winter semester ($6.75/hr x 6 hrs/week)4.50 (C) EFFECTIVE DATES¾ No amendments to any officer’s salary listed in 4.50(A) shall become effective until the beginning of the next fiscal year, unless such changes are mandated by state or federal law. Respectfully Submitted, Michelle ComptonTaylor McKinney Andrew CafourekSenator Senator MSA Vice-President
