46-30: An Act to Declare the DSA International Programming Committee’s Major Annual Events

WHEREAS, the Department of Student Activities’ International Programming Committee’s primary responsibility is to “produce shows and activities that appeal to the international student population, and for the cultural enrichment of the student population as a whole,” and

WHEREAS, IPC has experienced unprecedented success in reaching domestic and international students during the Winter and Fall 2006 semesters, with record attendance at its events, and

WHEREAS, these events include Chinese New Year, the International Fashion Show, and International Women’s Day Gala, and

WHEREAS, Associate Vice Provost for International Programs James Scott strongly recommends a formal declaration of IPC’s annual event calendar, and

WHEREAS, DSA Director Nick Trusty, former IPC Senior Chair Persephone Dakapolos, and current Senior Chair Lindsay Rapp support Associate Vice Provost Scott’s recommendation, and

WHEREAS, IPC is holding Chinese New Year on February 16, Brazilian Carnival on February 23, International Fashion Show on March 3, International Women’s Day Gala on March 8, Beijing Opera on April 7, and Grand Songkran Festival on April 19.

THEREFORE, Be it enacted by the Missouri Students Association Senate that Chapter 1 of the Senate bylaws be amended:

1.64 DEPARTMENT OF STUDENT ACTIVITIES (DSA)(C)INTERNTIONAL PROGRAMMING COMMITTEE—The International Programming Committee shall produce shows and activities that appeal to the international student population, and for the cultural enrichment of the student population as a whole. The Committee shall hold, at minimum, the following events each year:(1) Chinese New Year(2) International Fashion Show(3) International Women’s Day Gala
