46-13: A Resolution Requesting the Immediate Removal of the Italian Glass Mosaic from Tiger Spot

PURPOSE: To follow up on MSA President John Andersen’s letter to Chancellor Deaton requesting the glass mosaic’s removal as soon as possible.

WHEREAS, on July 7 President John Andersen sent a letter to Chancellor Brady Deaton recommending the removal of the Italian glass mosaic from Tiger Spot, and

WHEREAS, on July 14 Chancellor Deaton announced the mosaic would be removed, stating, “Unfortunately, several efforts to repair the damage have not survived additional battering from the Missouri weather,” and

WHEREAS, since it was first unveiled in October 2001, the Tiger Spot mosaic has required constant repairs, causing it to spend more time under the cover of a large red tent than in the public view, and

WHEREAS, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Cathy Scroggs has asked MSA Senate for a stance on the Tiger Spot mosaic.

THEREFORE, be it resolved that the Missouri Students Association requests the immediate removal of the Italian glass mosaic from Tiger Spot, and

THEREFORE, be it further resolved that any research, installment, or repair fees from Tiger Spot replacement projects will not use student fees.

EXECUTION CLAUSE: Upon passage this resolution shall be sent to Chancellor Brady Deaton, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Cathy Scroggs, and Vice Chancellor for Administrative Services Jackie Jones.

Respectfully Submitted,
